The Future of CC

Postby Toxie » Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:29 pm

Let me be honest, I have little desire to continue this website's existence. The people that originally asked for its creation seemed to have lost interest and, really, I do the vast majority of my forum posting elsewhere. On top of that, angry blogging holds little interest for me right now.

There is time to make decisions on the future of CC, as the domain is registered for another three months. Then the $10 gets tacked on the hosting bills.

So, what I want to know is, does anybody give a fuck if I tear it down? If I don't, what sort of future do you want for CC?

On one hand, it would be nice to have a "we don't play nice fuck you" forum that was actually popular enough to have traffic but on the other hand, maintaining a forum is an awful, thankless task that I would loathe doing more than I need to here.

Thoughts?

I'd like to see it stick around, that is if people actually used it. I personally don't have any other forums to go to... I pretty much just read Reddit, but there's way too many people there to hold an actual meaningful conversation.

Just throwing out random alternatives... What if we created a facebook page or something? Might be easier to keep us engaged on another network we'd actually check.

That's just it...it really isn't being used. Our "regular" members have dwindled to, what...five people who post like once a week?

I would like to see it going, but I'm clearly not taking the lead in fostering stimulating discussion. I appreciate that you've kept it up for as long as you have, and I respect your decision to kill it if such is your choice.

What are people's opinions of setting up a private facebook group? My concern is mostly that I'd like to not lose touch with all of you.

Here's the group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/edit.php ... 5523022637

I'll leave it open for now to make it easier for people to join it initially. Then I'll just go ahead and make everyone officers, and make the group private.

Sadly I'm way too busy for this forum currently (counting down the days, leas than 2 months to go and I have a life to go, then need to finish up that other Master's degree at my leisure). I'm reluctant to join a public forum at this point due to my professional role, so will hold off if ever. I think it's a great idea, but unsure if I can ever really link my professional self to this private self. Not that I have anything to be ashamed of, but... Don't want to be constantly second guessing (honestly, I have no fear of co-workers/bosses, it is the client factor - realize I am their "role model" and someone they look up to).

I say tear it down. I haven't checked this place since we became best fwiends on Facebook. Apparently I haven't missed much.

Speaking of which, I did join that group that Mouse started. Whee.

Due to the private nature, I do firmly believe the group needs to be set to 'closed.' I am only leaving it open to allow an easier way to join the group.

If people feel better, I can close the group, and people can contact me or others (since I will be promoting everyone) directly in order to be invited.
